Kualoa Ranch

Considered sacred by ancient Hawaiians, historic Ka’a’awa on the northeastern side of Oahu is home to the Beautiful 4,000-acre Kualoa Ranch. Established in 1850, this family-owned and operated ranch offers several different ways to explore the surrounding countryside and all of it’s varied terrain. Horseback riding in beautiful Kualoa Ranch on Kaneohe Bay is perfect. Go for an hour, or two- it’s your choice. There’s no shortage of terrific photo opportunities and lots of varied terrain for you to explore. The hour long horse back ride takes you through the southern part of the ranch which includes sever highlights: an ancient Hawaiian fishpond that’s been around for 800 years, a gorgeous view of famed Mokoli’I Island called “china man’s Hat by the locals and beautiful views of Kaneohe Bay.
If you opt for two hours of horseback riding on Oahu, you’ll travel north instead, deep into the valley, through dense forest areas and past historic World War II bunkers. Along the way you’ll come across some mighty familiar locations; Kualoa Ranch has served as the backdrop for a number of major Hollywood productions, including Jurassic Park, Pearl Harbor, Wind talkers, you, me and Dupree, 50 first dates and NBC’s hit TV show Lost!

Happy trails is nestled away on a hilltop overlooking lush Waimea Valley. You will be escorted through cool sun filtered forests, lush green ranch land and wild tropical orchids. There are wonderful panoramic views of the mountains and Waimea Bay.

1.5 or 2 hours rides

1.5- Hour Ride: Check-in 11:30am, 1:30pm or 3:30pm
2-Hour Ride: Check-in 9:30am or 3:30pm

Don’t forget to leave early for the approximately 1.5 hour drive time from Waikiki to Waimea Bay on the north shore.

DIRECTIONS FROM WAIKIKI:

Take H-1 West to H-2 all the way to the end, where it merges with 99 north. Follow the narrow road veering right following signs to the north shore. Continue through the traffic light by-passing Haleiwa Town where 99 becomes Kamehameha Hwy. Immediately past Waimea Bay, turn at the traffic light on Pupukea Rd. (Foodland market is on the corner). Drive one mile up to the ranch.

Gunstock Ranch

Gunstock Ranch has been in the Smith family for over 35 years. Max Smith the owner has the honor of being in the Paniolo (cowboy) Hall Of Fame. This is a 400 acre working ranch at the foot of the Ko’olau Mountains. Gunstock ranch is located in Laie, Oahu. Gunstock Ranch offers six different horseback riding on Oahu packages including a Moonlight Horseback Ride during every full moon.

#1) 4 hour horseback ride through beautiful hills and valleys. Lunch is included and the cost is $150.00 for ages 10 and up.

#2) Sweetheart ride- a two hour guided horseback ride to a quiet picnic spot in the mountains with 30 minutes of romantic time alone at the picnic site. Perfect for Honeymooners. $125.00 for ages 18 and up.

3) Advanced trail ride- this is a 60 minute guided ride on more advanced trails. $85.00 for adult advanced riders only.

4) Scenic ride- a 90 minute guided ride through the majestic natural beauty of the Ko’olau mountains. Available mornings and afternoons and good for any skill level. $65.00 for ages 7 and up.

5) Keiki ride- this is a 20 minute children’s ride for ages 2 - 7. The staff leads horses around the ranch so the kids can have fun horseback riding on Oahu. $25.00 for ages 2 - 7.
