LAIE

Mormon Temple in Laie

Mormon Temple In Laie

Once sugar plantations, This land was acquired by Mormon missionaries in 1864 and settled by a colony of Hawaiian Mormons. This Mormon Temple is an impressive smaller version of the Mormon temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. This truly beautiful Temple was built in 1919 on an ancient Hawaiian site which was called pu’uhonua ( sanctuary for the pursued ). This lovely town is also home to Brigham Young University and the Polynesian Cultural Center . Polynesians from all over the Pacific came to Oahu to attend Brigham Young University. These Polynesians are the people that welcome you to the Polynesian Cultural Center and share their customs with you. When in town be sure to visit The Beach Park. This Beach Park has a sandy beach and an offshore coral reef that helps protect swimmers from some rough surf. This beach is perfect for beginning surfers and Boogie Boarders. This beach offers shade but no lifeguards, fresh water or restrooms.
