The sunken USS Arizona
The USS Arizona Memorial is the final resting place for most of the 1.177 crew members who lost their lives on December 7, 1941. Suggestions for the Memorial began in 1943 but the Memorial was not dedicated until 1962. The Memorial commemorates the site where World War II began for the United States.
The Memorial is 184 feet Long and spans the width of the mid portion of the sunken battleship, which you can see beneath the water. The structure was designed with a sag in the center and strong and tall on both ends, representing initial defeat and ultimate victory. All overtones of sadness where purposely omitted from the Memorial and the overall effect is serenity which allows each individual to contemplate their own feelings.
The best way to see the Arizona Memorial is to see it on this great Pearl Harbor tour at the link below with a great price of only $22.00 to see the arizona memorial and tour the battleship missouri.
The Memorial’s marble wall contains the names of each crew member killed on the Arizona. Please be respectful and quiet and allow others their moments to contemplate the memory of those who lost their lives for The United States Of America.
