When you arrive at the USS Bowfin submarine Museum And Park, you will be given a walkman style cassette player that narrates the tour of the historic World War II submarine USS Bowfin. The Bowfin was launched December 7th 1942, the one year anniversary of the
Attack on Pearl Harbor
. The USS Bowfin Completed nine successful war patrols. This submarine earned the Presidential Unit Citation and the Navy Unit Commendation. The USS Bowfin was opened to the public in 1981 and made a National Historic Landmark in 1986. Explore what life must have been like for the 80 man crew aboard this historic submarine. The Museum contains an impressive collection of submarine related artifacts including: submarine weapons, photographs, paintings, battle flags, original recruiting posters and a Poseidon C-3 missile. There is also a mini theatre with many sub-related videos. The waterfront memorial, located in the USS Bowfin Park, honors the 52 American submarines and more than 3500 submariners lost during World War II.
Hours:
8:00am - 5:00pm daily with the last tour of the USS Bowfin Submarine at 4:30pm.
Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.
Children under 4 years old are not allowed on the Submarine for safety reasons.
