VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES

photo of Byodo-In temple

Byodo-In Temple

The Valley Of The Temples is located close to Kaneohe and is probably one of the most peaceful spots on Oahu. This Valley was built in 1968, One hundred years after the first Japanese immigrants came to Hawaii. Christians as well as Buddhist are buried here. There is a Christian Church and a Buddhist Temple located here. This beautifully peaceful landmark is located against a backdrop of tall cliffs and landscaped with Japanese shrubs and koi ponds. There is a replica of the 900 year old Byodo-In Temple located in Uji, Japan. Inside the temple is nine foot Lotus Buddha covered in gold and lacquer. This is the largest Buddha carved in over 900 years. Beside the temple is a 5 foot, 3 ton brass peace bell, a meditation house and a 2 acre koi pond. There are lots of peacocks and other tropical birds within this peaceful valley.
